Here’s a quick video to tell you who I am and what this site is all about.
In short, I started out as a Bruce Lee wanna-be. I was also a cocky, self-centered jerk!
But after 30 years of taking punches as a student and teacher, I’ve turned into a pretty nice guy. I think!
I’m no world champion or tough guy, but I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing teachers over the years. Along the way, I’ve earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (my first art) and an 8th degree black belt in Kung Fu San Soo (my main art for over 20 years).
I’ve also trained in BJJ, Aikido, and Shotokan Karate, but at this point, I just say I’m a martial artist. Here’s why—
I don’t care about styles. I care about improving myself through the challenge of fighting.
So, why do you call yourself “Sensei”?
For the last 11 years, I’ve served as Program Director at Dawn Barnes Karate Kids in Los Angeles. The kids call me “Sensei Ando” and the name stuck. (And if there’s anything more rewarding than teaching kids to stand up for themselves, I haven’t found it!) 🙂
Anyway, just call me Ando!

But I’d rather talk about you!
I started this site to share all the tips and techniques that changed my life mentally, physically, and spiritually.
My goal is to help you get more out of your training. Why?
Because I believe that martial artists should be role models of patience and power in the world. I believe we can be real-life super heroes.
I believe the stronger we are, the more good guys we can inspire to practice martial arts with us… instead of thinking we’re a bunch of weirdos!
That’s my dream anyway… a world where all of the good guys tap into their power, so the bullies and bad guys don’t stand a chance.
So, let’s make your world—and the whole world—a better place!
