#68: Fauzia Lala Interview [Podcast]

Posted on January 2, 2019November 30, 2020 by Ando Mierzwa

Welcome to Episode #68 of the Fight for a Happy Life martial arts podcast. In this episode, we sit down with Fauzia Lala for an inspiring chat about finding your identity and accomplishing your goals.

Defense Ninjas class

Fauzia is the founder and head instructor of Defense Ninjas, an all-women’s self-defense program based in Seattle, Washington. She’s also an inventor and entrepreneur, selling designer contact lens cases through her company, ESKE.

But wait—there’s more!

We also had the chance to shoot a video about women’s self-defense, which you’ll find down below. I added a TedX talk given by Fauzia that I think you’ll enjoy as well.

In this interview, however, Fauzia talks about—

  • Moving from Dubai to the U.S.A.
  • Breaking through shells
  • Finding your voice
  • The power of self-reflection
  • Dealing with haters
  • Realistic self-defense training
  • Two questions to change your life
  • Deathbed advice

Heads up—if you listen to podcasts at double-speed, you’ll be lost! Fauzia is a high-energy speaker, so to keep up with what she’s saying, you might want to slow this one down. 🙂

To follow Fauzia’s work, please visit—

Someone sending you a dead crow in the mail?? LMAO!

Sensei Ando is the best, and I’m really happy to see Fauzia Lala here, a brave woman with a good intention helping the world, not just us women. Thanks to you both for doing what you do.

The thing about YouTube is… and Ando is right. There are going to be some haters but it can’t stop you from doing what you do, because all you can be is yourself. I mean from my side, it’s all about boundaries. If someone is malicious in their comments that don’t have any kind of constructive criticism (like “you should pull your arms in more”.. I mean, maybe that’s true), my method is just to delete and block. I have no patience for maliciousness. I’ve been bullied in my life, I’ve been pushed around, I’ve been afraid and now I’m like “F it.” Who cares about people who don’t care about you? It’s tough to get “crows in the mail” but you just have to determine what is the intent of it, does it matter, and is it really because these people are so unhappy with their lives that they have to spend their precious time spewing hate to someone else and you just have to … kick them out of your life. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

“Ain’t nobody got time for that” is right, Anna! HA! 😀

I’m thrilled that you have fought to find your voice and also found the strength to share it… no matter what! Seeing you put yourself out there is always inspiring to me. The world needs more people like you!

Keep fighting and let the haters eat crow instead of mail it! 😉
