Kung Fu Lesson at the Grand Canyon

Posted on June 1, 2016 by Ando Mierzwa

You’ve heard me say before that the world is your dojo. That’s why you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that I just got a Kung Fu lesson at the Grand Canyon!

I hope you’ll take a moment to check out this video or read the transcript below. Either way, be on the lookout for martial arts lessons everywhere you go. Keep learning, my friend!

Kung Fu Lesson at the Grand Canyon

Science still can’t say for sure whether it took six, 16, or 60 million years to form the Grand Canyon, but it’s safe to say that it all started with just a little trickle of water making its way across the land.

Sometimes a trickle, sometimes a torrent, the important thing is it never stopped. And eventually, it cut deeper and deeper into the rock and it created something amazing. Something epic. Something grand.

Kung Fu LessonThat’s why I see more than just rocks out here… I see Kung Fu.

Two wordsโ€”Kung Fu. Effort and time.

That’s what’s so cool about Kung Fu… they give you the secret to success right from day one! Work hard for a long time.

If you do, well, then maybe one day you’ll be a master. Maybe one day you can create something amazing. Something epic. Something grand.

So, my question to youโ€”

What are you working on?

What rock are you cutting into?

Don’t make the mistake of letting time go by without doing some work, my friend. Do something today. Right now.

It can be a trickle or a torrent, but keep going. Keep flowing.

CUT THE ROCK.

Boy. You know, the other thought I have as I look out into the abyss isโ€”

“Life means nothing. I am nothing. Maybe I should just jump.”

Don’t jump…

WORK!

Keep going. Keep flowing. Keep fighting for a happy life.

    Wow… Beautiful, philosophical, thoughtful.
I guess I could sum up my response to this video by telling you that of all your product on display to date, this one proves that you are truly a “rock” star! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Nice work, Sensei ๐ŸŒŸ

Really beautiful imagery Sensei Ando – with stunning pictures to match – lovely!

Can I ask you a random question btw? Sorry to put it in a weird place on your website! What is your view on (a) knuckle pushups and (b) fingertip pushups? My instinct is that (a) is good but (b) feels dangerous. But really I have no clue, so would love to get your thoughts . . . ? (let me know if I should repost this question somewhere else)

Hi Kai! Always happy when you drop by! ๐Ÿ™‚

I would say knuckle pushups and finger pushups are a nice addition to a workout, but certainly not essential. Knuckle and finger pushups are obviously less risky than punching bricks or slamming your shins into poles, so if you want to build up your hand and wrist strength, give it a try. Just take it slow and steady. Maybe simply holding yourself up is a good enough challenge.

Personally, I do knuckle pushups, but not finger pushups. The knuckle pushups help keep my wrist alignment honest, but I really don’t see much need for finger pushups. I would rather spend that time making my grip stronger. That builds finger strength I can use!

Just my first thoughts. Thanks for the question, Kai! ๐Ÿ™‚
